THE FOUNDATION
Art foundation, De Witte Zwaan was formally established in 2000 by Harry and Joop Zwetsloot. The foundation's primary goal is to acquire, manage and maintain works of art inspired by spring-flowering bulbs. In addition, the foundation sees it as its task to bring these works of art to the attention of the public. Experts in the field of collection development, management and exhibition have been sought for the board. What once started out of personal interest is now organised within a professional entity.
NAME AND LOGO
The name goes back to 1921 when the auction company HoBaHo was founded, which later became the property of Harry and Joop Zwetsloot. De Witte Zwaan refers to the former hotel of that name. The hotel was located in Lisse, halfway between Haarlem and Leiden, and also had an inn, that is to say a place where horses were changed. Due to the rise of the automobile, this had fallen into disuse. In that accommodation, Messrs. Homan, Bader and Hogewoning were able to start their auction company called HoBaHo. The swan then also became the logo of the company.
COLLABORATION WITH NATIONAL MUSEUM THE BLACK TULIP
The foundation has obtained an ANBI status ( a non-profit institution that serves the public interest) and with that also the obligation to exhibit the art collection. In order to realize that, the foundation has been working together with the Museum De Zwarte Tulp in Lisse for a number of years.
