Flowers in a vase
Description
Mique de Boer received a thorough education in painting, first at the Rijksnormaalschool (National Normal School) and then at the Rijksacademie (National Academy) in Amsterdam. However, it wasn't until around the age of forty that she began to receive publicity for her paintings. She is best known for her abstract works, in which she uses oceans of color. This work is also called "lyrical abstract" because she manages to capture so much emotion and movement in her otherwise abstract artworks. Mique de Boer primarily creates large gouaches and occasionally an oil painting, such as this one in the De Witte Zwaan collection. It's not entirely clear which flowers are depicted; they could be amaryllis.
