Farm near a bulb field

Description

Herman, aka 'Henri' van Daalhoff, was born in The Hague. He began painting at 17, a self-taught technique. After moving several times, he settled back in The Hague, where he met art educator HP Bremmer. His style began to change, and from that moment on, Bremmer's ideas were strongly influenced in his work. Thanks to Bremmer, Daalhoff's work was acquired by Hélène Kröller-Müller and other museums. Henri van Daalhoff is best known for his dreamy cityscapes, village scenes, and farmyards. He did not work from nature but sought to depict feelings or an inner world. His blurred, rarely sharply defined forms and the orange-brown, green, and yellow colors he frequently used were consistent with this. This style can be found in the painting in the De Witte Zwaan collection.
