Botanical print with the Ixia patens
Description
These prints were made after botanical drawings by Sydenham Edwards, one of the most talented botanical illustrators ever, for the English periodical The Botanical Magazine (from 1799 Curtis's Botanical Magazine), founded in 1787 by William Curtis (1746-1799). Edwards was associated with the magazine as its chief illustrator for over 25 years and produced over 1700 drawings. The illustrations were engraved by others, from 1794 primarily by the highly talented engraver Francis Sansom († 1815), and colored by various artists.
