Greater snowdrop (Galanthus elwesii)

Description

Mieke Verdegaal comes from a family of bulb growers, hence her fascination with bulbous plants. She trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In the 1980s, she created a series of watercolors of bulbous plants in the tradition of historical botanical prints. Today, she works primarily as a painter. Through the compositions of her paintings, she creates "character studies" of the plants, as it were. Her work is colorful and captivating.
