Jo Lodeizen was born in Schiedam. At a young age, Jo showed a talent for drawing but became a teacher on his father's advice. Around the age of twenty-five, he met art educator HP Bremmer, who took him under his wing and gave him the confidence to resume drawing and painting. Jo Lodeizen is entirely self-taught, forging his own path and primarily painting still lifes and landscapes. The work in the De Witte Zwaan* collection is characteristic of Jo Lodeizen, with its simple, light background and the straightforward depiction of a vase and tulips. *The painting was purchased as a work by Jan Lodeizen. Galerie Wijdemeren in Breukelen held an exhibition in 2018 demonstrating that the artist known as Jan Lodeizen (Scheen / H. Balk, De Kunstpaus. HP Bremmer, 2006, passim) and who signed his work as J. Lodeizen, was actually named Jo. Therefore, the name Jo has been retained. RKDArtists mentions the death of the artist Jan Lodeizen, a brother of Jo, in 1959.
