Fruit and walnut chair with carvings of hyacinths

Description

The Dumas-Barbedienne furniture factory was founded at the end of the nineteenth century by the merger of Ferdinand Barbedienne's bronze foundry with the furniture factory of Paul-Alexandre Dumas. This student of Louis Majorelle designed furniture in the popular Art Nouveau style. From around 1900, the designs produced by this furniture workshop were signed with the name Dumas-Barbedienne. The chair from the De Witte Zwaan collection is a beautiful example of the factory's rather understated Art Nouveau products. The chair has graceful lines and is modestly decorated with inlaid work on the backrest, surmounted by carved hyacinths.
