Silver hammered cigar box with iris decoration

Description

The crescent-moon and crown mark is typical of German silver from after 1886, when all city marks were replaced by a landmark, also known as a Reichsmark. The cigar tin in the De Witte Zwaan collection was likely made in the early twentieth century. It consists of two tins that can be slid over each other, creating a dark and dry storage space for cigars. The outer tin is decorated with irises sprouting from the base. The rounded top is also decorated with irises. These surround a monogram in the center with the elegant letters "FM," probably the initials of the tin's owner.
