Paul de Vries founded the Passì studio in 1991, where he primarily exhibited his own collection of silver jewelry before specializing in the design and production of large silver pieces. De Vries generally draws inspiration from nature. He always seeks simplicity and elegance, allowing himself to be completely guided by the material. His work balances between art and utility. The candlestick in the De Witte Zwaan collection is shaped like a half S and tapers from high to low. The contours of the tulip flowers are hand-carved. De Vries based the shape on tulips familiar from historical depictions. The gilded interior of the candlestick is visible through the cut tulips. Six silver candle holders are mounted at the top of the candlestick. The silver candlestick in the De Witte Zwaan collection is number 5 in a series of eight.
